Outdoor Family Challenges

Travel Information

Most family pairs that fly from other parts of the country come to the north San Juan Mountains via Montrose Municipal Airport. There are a variety of places to stay in Montrose, Ridgway, or Ouray. If you fly in, you may find it easier to come in Tuesday night and spend the night at local lodging then meet the group at Cimmarron Creek Fly and Outdoors Store on Main Street in Montrose. Some motels are able to bring you the the Fly Shop; inquire with your lodging host.

We leave from Cimmarron Creek mid morning on Wednesday for the base camp. You are returned to Cimmarron Creek on Sunday by 1:00 p.m.

If you are driving in from the North, such as I-70, in Grand Junction take Hwy 50 business loop thru town southeast to Delta. Stay on Hwy 50 thru Delta, thru Olathe, into Montrose. You'll pass the airport and about a mile south of the airport, take Hwy 50 east toward Gunnison (a left turn). In the middle of that first block on your left you'll see Cimmarron Creek, it has the only blue canopy out front. Park your vehicle anywhere you can and we'll direct you to public parking after we greet you in the store.

If you are driving from the south, such as Durango or Cortez, come North on Hwy 550 from Durango thru Silverton, thru Ouray, and prepair to stop in Ridgway (if you need not stop at the Fly Shop in Montrose); but, if you need supplies: go North on Hwy 550 into Montrose; at the light on Main Street go right/east as tho' you're going to Gunnison; immediately on your left, in the middle of the block is Cimmarron Creek with the only blue canopy in town). If you need no supplies, at the light in Ridgway (there is only one light), go right two blocks and park in the parking lot of the Ridgway Christian Center (RCC) which will be on your left; you can't miss it. We'll pick you up at about 12:00 p.m.
