Application Process

Nessessary Equipment

Each pair is responsible to bring their own personal items, i.e., back pack, sleeping gear, hygiene materials, dishes and utensils, first aid kit, rain gear, etc. The materials provided by Mountain Family Living include communal kitchen gear, food/water, master first aid kit, emergency gear, horses to transport community gear, feed for animals, archery and climbing gear.

Parties may purchase any desired climbing gear and fishing equipment at the outfitter's store prior to the departure for the trail head just after arrival at the Montrose airport on Wednesday. Click here for a detailed Gear Checklist

Eligibility

  • All Fathers with sons or daughters that have just graduated or will be graduating at the end of this school year from either high school or college and desire to repair or strengthen their relationship!
  • Fathers that want to pass onto their son or daughter, “The Blessing”!
  • Sons or daughters who want to enter manhood or womanhood freed from “encumbrances” with their father!

Prerequisites For Consideration

Each pair needs to complete an application before consideration for acceptance is given. The application includes basic information, a short questionnaire, and a comprehensive life history written by each participant. Some relationships may be so damaged that a five-day intensive can not repair it, but would instead worsen the relationship. One example for such a case might be a father who had sexually violated his daughter. Such cases will be referred for long-term therapy, and discouraged from appliing.

A medical release and waivers are included in the application pachett that need completion and appropriate signatures.

A deposit fee of 50% is required with the returned application. The deposit will not be deposited until acceptance is given.

Applications can be filled out online and sent via internet (with only the releases to download and send via US mail, or the entire application may be sent in with a deposit check.)

Each family pair:   Father/Son, Father/Daughter, or Husband/Wife will have reading to do and may order the books online from http://amazon.com or from OFC's parent company Mountain Family Living.

Releases

Each person must have a completed physical and have their doctor sign a release that the participant can engage in activities that include both physical and psychological/emotional stresses at 8,000 to 14,250 foot elevation.
These must be returned with the application.

Consent

A signed informed consent form must be returned with the application.

Costs

The cost for the Father/Son Challenge and the Father/Daughter Challenge is $4,500. (the Husband/Wife Challenge costs will be announced by Feb 1 2007.)

The cost includes the following:

  • Outfitter/wrangler and communal gear
  • Kitchen tent and the cooking equipment
  • Food & water (not including person trail snacks)
  • Climbing gear
  • Archery gear
  • Therapist interactions and interventions
  • Field Manuals
  • Outdoor coach for climbing, fishing, orienteering, archery (personal fishing gear is not included, although if yo've been wanting an expert's help in choosing a new fly rod, Bob can help)
  • Animals & Feed
  • Round trip Transportation From Cimmarron Creek Fly Shop to trail head

Payment

The payment can be made online with Paypal or via US Mail.

Due Dates

The application and a minimum deposit of ($2,000) is due 60 days prior to departure date. (Please call Mountain Family Living at (970) 626-4202 for availability if you are inquiring after the dead line (in the event there’s been a cancellation). Payment in full is required no later than 25 days before the departure date.

Refunds

Payment in full must be made 25 days prior to departure. Full refunds (minus a $200 cancellation fee) are only provided prior to 25 days before departure date. Requests for full refund (minus a $200.00 cancellation fee), must be made in writing and post marked 25 days before the departure date. However, requests made within 25 days of departure, but not less than 15 days before departure, will receive a 50% refund. No refund will be given for cancellations made within 15 days of departure.
